Asteroid Prometheus Meaning in Astrology: Foresight

1809 Prometheus is a 14-kilometer-diameter asteroid from the outer portion of the asteroid belt. It was discovered during the Palomar-Leiden survey in 1960 and given the temporary designation 2522 P-L.

The legendary Greek Titan Prometheus, who wanted to give humanity a helping hand, inspired the name of the asteroid.

Prometheus is said to have been instrumental in the origin of humanity in certain mythologies. Both Epimetheus and Prometheus were ordered by Zeus to create animals and humans, but the impulsive Epimetheus gave greater beneficial characteristics to animals.

Because of this, humans become defenseless and helpless. Prometheus, in disobedience of Zeus, stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans as a solution. The fire was an absolute blessing that helped humanity survive, develop new technology, and fight off predators.

This defiance, however, was met with retribution. Zeus was so angry that he chained Prometheus to a rock and had an eagle devour his liver every day, but every night it would grow back.

The rebellion of Prometheus, as exemplified by Prometheus’s theft of fire from the gods and his subsequent gift of it to humanity, can symbolize the desire to push boundaries and challenge authority in astrology.

In my opinion, Prometheus is the astrological embodiment of the free spirit, the pioneer, and the revolutionary. It represents the desire for free progress and the need to be liberated.

A Promethean spirit is one that is not afraid to try new things, question established conventions, and look for novel ways to do things.

Prometheus in Transit/Synastry

In a transit or synastry to or from your natal Prometheus, you may find yourself in a position where the other person involved is using deception and subtle manipulation to their advantage.

It will be difficult to rise above the falsehoods, regardless of your motives or the ethical standards you’re defending. The transit’s seeming failure could be a lesson that the truth doesn’t always set you free. Or that certain individuals would constantly want to step on you in their quest for status and success.

Additionally, when influenced by a transit to or from Prometheus, you may find yourself in a position where you must take a stand. This may be an ongoing problem after a breakup of a serious relationship or a divorce when connections drift apart.

It may also represent a period when you must make a decision that may appear selfish to a close friend or loved one, but which you know is in your best interest in the long run.
